What the results tell us for Snowy River

Other than smoke from occasional fires, and localized wood smoke from domestic fireplaces, air quality in the Snowy River Shire was generally considered to be acceptable during the current reporting period. Since there is no routine air quality monitoring in the area there is no way to assess whether there has been any change in air quality over time.

From time to time during the reporting period residents experienced a reduction in air quality due to smoke from fuel reduction burns. Temperature inversions that trap air pollution close to the ground may occur, particularly in winter.

Emissions from motor vehicles continue to have an impact on outdoor air quality across Australia, although this is most apparent in the larger population centres. Snowy River Shire is unlikely to be exposed to noticeable reductions in air quality due to vehicle emissions, although large numbers of seasonal visitors or an increase in traffic through flow, may cause some reduction in outdoor air quality.
