What the results tell us for Yass Valley

Smoke from occasional bushfires and fuel reduction burns, dust storms associated with the dry conditions, and localized wood smoke from domestic fireplaces occasionally affected air quality in the Yass Valley. Temperature inversions that trap air pollution close to the ground occur in winter. In all other respects air quality was generally considered to be acceptable during the current reporting period. Since there is no routine air quality monitoring in the area there is no way to assess whether there has been any change in air quality over time.

Emissions from motor vehicles continue to have an impact on outdoor air quality across Australia, although this is most apparent in the larger population centres. Yass Valley Shire is unlikely to be exposed to noticeable reductions in air quality due to vehicle emissions, although large numbers of seasonal visitors or an increase in traffic through flow, may cause some reduction in outdoor air quality.
